Gladys Duplantis Picou, 95, a native and resident of Chauvin, passed away on Wednesday May 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., surrounded by her children.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 27th at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma from 5 pm to 9 pm. Saturday, May 28th from 9am to funeral time at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin. The funeral will be at 11 am, with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Narie Picou Prosperie. Four sons, Lawrence Picou, Sr., wife Adriane, Conrad Picou, Sr., wife Marylee, Ray Picou, wife Charlene and Thomas "Tommy" Picou, wife Jenny. Two sisters, Lourella LeCompte and Edna "Dee" Foret. One brother, Alfred Duplantis, Sr. 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Picou. Her parents, Wilson "Tim" Duplantis, Sr. and Theolan Margaret Theriot Duplantis. One sister, Rosaline Orgeron and three brothers, Wilson Duplantis, Jr., Wilsey Duplantis and Murphy Duplantis, Sr. One grandchild, Francis Picou. One son-in-law, Lloyd Paul Prosperie.
She was a member of the Chauvin Senior Citizens Club where she enjoyed visiting with friends while creating art, quilting and making ceramic crafts.
She was also a member of the Lagniappe on the Bayou Singers and also worked in the quilters booth every year at the fair.
She was a Catholic Parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Chauvin.
