Rose Marcello Caballero, 88, a native of St. Charles Community and resident of Houma, died, Friday, April 8, 2011. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 8:30 AM until service time at Saint Francis de Sales Cathedral. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM at Saint Francis de Sales Cathedral with burial to follow at Saint Francis de Sales #2 Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Donovan Caballero and wife Tammy of Brentwood, Tennessee, one daughter Kayla Caballero Lyons and husband Jason of Houma, LA, four grandchildren, Brendon and Lauren Caballero of Brentwood, Tennessee and Stephen and Michelle Lyons of Houma, LA and one sister Iona Marcello Bergeron of Thibodaux, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Caballero, parents, Sam Marcello and Mary Thibodaux and four sisters, Priscilla Marcello Robichaux, Kate Marcello Verret, Pearl Marcello Coyle and Genevieve Marcello Haydel. She was a parishioner of Saint Francis de Sales Cathedral. Rose was born on July 6, 1922. She attended Southwestern University, now known as University of Louisiana at Lafayette. At 21, she enlisted in the United States Women’s Marine Corps and served for three years during World War II. She then moved to Houma and married Paul who had just finished serving in the United States Air Force. They were married for thirty years. Rose was a devoted elementary school teacher most of her working life and retired from the Terrebonne Parish School System. She was a member of the Saint Joseph‘s Italian Society and the American Legion Houma Post # 349. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, the Veteran’s Administration and the Terrebonne Parish Retired Teachers’ Association. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Rose to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O.
