Merle Lewis

Merle Smith Lewis, 91, a native and resident of Houma, LA died Sunday, February 20, 2011. Visitation will be Thursday, from 10:00 AM until service time at Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 12:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Survived by: Daughter: Martha Lynn Lewis of Houston, TX Son: Felix Dixon Lewis, IV, and wife Colleen Walsh Lewis Granddaughter: Caroline Elizabeth Lewis of Dallas, TX Brother: William Clifford Smith and wife Jo-Anne Toups Smith Preceded in death by: Husband: Felix Dixon Lewis, Jr Parents: Thomas Baker Smith and Blanche Menville Smith Son: Felix Dixon Lewis, III Brother: Thomas Baker Smith, Jr She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Merle graduated from Lorton Preparatory School of Houma. She earned a B.A. Degree (1940) from Newcomb College, Tulane University. Merle was a past president and long time member of the Terrebonne Garden Club. She was a charter member of Terrebonne Historical and Cultural Society where she served as board member and secretary. She was also a member of the Louisiana Preservation Alliance and the History and Preservation Society of Louisiana.
