Failman Joseph Guilfou, 89, a native of Bruly St. Martin and a resident of Houma, died at 2:02 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in Terrebonne Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Ella Boudreaux Guilfou of Houma; one daughter, Natalie Ryan and husband, Allen of New Orleans; one son, Nathan Guilfou and wife, Rhonda of Chauvin; his daughter-in-law, Ruth Guilfou of Houma; 10 grandchildren, Tate Ryan, Andre Guilfou, Russell Guilfou, Claire Guilfou, Jessica Guilfou, Kenneth Guilfou, Ryan Guilfou, Kevin Guilfou, Derek Guilfou and Katie Guilfou; two great-grandchildren, Austin Ryan and Taylor Ryan; and one sister, Palace Blanchard of Donaldsonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Guilfou and Lillian Landry Guilfou; one son, Norman Guilfou; and one brother, Herman Guilfou. Failman retired from Shell Oil Company as a mechanic and was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He recieved the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Unit Citation Award, American Defense Service Medal and the Eameto Medal. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3700 and a member of the American Legion.
