During his tenure, he quarterbacked the 1956 and 1957 football teams- leading the 1957 team to a conference championship and a national ranking with an undefeated 10-0 record and co-national championship.
Champagne was also on the Hinds Community College track team and won the 1957 high-jump conference championship in addition to setting out-of-state records in track. He finished his sports career at Southwestern Louisiana University.
The Champagne family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Haydel Memorial Hospice for all their help and contributions.
He will be missed dearly by family and friends.
